A Trumbull County grand jury has indicted Marcel Tipton, 27, of Douglas Street on charges of failure to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence in the New Year’s Day hit-and-run incident involving a man on a bicycle.
Tipton was sentenced last month in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to four years in prison for violating the terms of his probation on a 2010 conviction and other charges.
Tipton’s indictment Tuesday is for purportedly leaving the scene after hitting Harold Rice, 46, of Warren at 2:48 a.m. at Summit Street and Tod Avenue Northwest. Rice suffered several broken bones and other injuries.
The license plate on the 2000 Lincoln Continental Tipton was driving was left behind at the scene. The Continental was found a few days later abandoned at a house on York Street Northwest.
Tipton was on probation at the time from a 2009 incident in which he fled from police on a stolen motorcycle and wrecked it on Palmyra Road in Warren Township.
