Girls track competes at Arnold Classic


The Boardman girls indoor track team competed at the Arnold Track Classic on March 2 at The Ohio State University. This is the third year the meet was held in conjunction with the “Arnold Sports Festival.”

Sophomore Jordan Grantonic continued her excellence in the distance events by running a career-best time of 11:34.52 to place runner-up in the 3200-meter run. She is currently ranked fifth in the indoor state rankings, with only a two-second difference between the third and fifth-place runners.

The 4x800 relay team placed fifth with a time of 10:30.31. Junior Brandi Gatte led off the relay, running a season-best split of 2:31.7. Sophomore Regan O’Hara ran a season best of 2:34.4 in the second leg, senior Daisy Corso ran 2:42.7 in the third leg and junior Trista Cunningham ran 2:40.6 in the anchor leg. In the 4x400 relay, the team of Gatte, Regan O’Hara, sophomore Hope Landers and Cunningham ran 4:32.24, placing seventh.

In the field events, senior Giovanna Silvestri placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 35-5 æ and sophomore teammate Ka’nisha White was sixth, throwing a career-best toss of 35-5 º. Senior Sarina Mauerman placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 8-6. In the 60-meter hurdles, both Landers and sophomore Stephanie DeMain made it to the finals, running 10.38 and 10.76, respectively.

Many girls had their season-best performances at this meet. In the sprinting events, junior Nikki Hillard ran 8.93 in the 60-meter dash and 29.37 in the 200. Junior Morgan Hambrick ran 8.91 in the 60-meter dash, Anya Bolger ran 76.24 in the 400 and 31.76 in the 200, all personal bests.

In the distance events, freshman Elly Larrier ran a season best of 6:13.55 in the 1600-meter run. In the 800-meter run, Gatte ran 2:35.69, Trista Cunningham ran 2:39.77 and Regan O’Hara ran 2:41.29, all personal bests. In the field events, senior Katrina Watkins had a season best toss of 31-6 æ in the shot put.
