Girl runners tune up for state championships
On March 10, eight members of the girls track team traveled to Oberlin for a “last chance state qualifier” meet in hopes of making the top 16 for the Indoor State Championships to be held today at Akron.
The 4x800 relay team of Grantonic, Gatte, Regan O’Hara and Cunningham ran a season best of 10:15.96 on their way to a first-place finish. Grantonic ran a 2:30, Gatte ran 2:32, O’Hara and Cunningham had season-best splits of 2:33 and 2:37, respectively.
Grantonic came back to win the mile in 5:31.59. Mauerman was runner-up in the pole vault with a height of 9-0. Ka’nisha White threw a career-best toss of 36-5 to finish third. She is currently ranked 16th in the state rankings.
Silvestri placed fourth in the shot with a toss of 35-4 Ω and is currently ranked 17th in the shot put. Senior Daisy Corso ran a career-best performance of 2:41.39 in the 800-meter run. Cunningham ran 2:42.20 in the 800 and Gatte ran 68.64 in the 400. Regan O’Hara ran 68.93 in the same event.
