A woman clutching her baby son in her arms plunged eight stories out of an apartment window to her death in an apparent suicide Wednesday, but the baby survived, police said.
Cynthia Wachenheim was found on the street with her son, 10-month-old Keston, near her. A police officer who responded took the baby to a hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
Police discovered a seven-page suicide note under a bed in the apartment Wachenheim shared with her husband.
Official discusses Chavez’s embalming
caracas, venezuela
Venezuela’s acting president said Wednesday that it is highly unlikely Hugo Chavez will be embalmed for permanent viewing because the decision to do so was made too late and the Socialist leader’s body was not properly prepared in time. “The decision should have been made much earlier,” Nicolas Maduro said.
President Chavez died March 5. The decision to preserve his body permanently was announced two days later.
Study: Breast-cancer radiation can harm
Women treated with radiation for breast cancer are more likely to develop heart problems later, even with the lower doses used today, troubling new research suggests. The risk comes from any amount of radiation, starts five years after treatment and lasts for decades, doctors found.
Patients shouldn’t panic — radiation has improved cancer survival, and that is the top priority, doctors say. The chance of suffering a radiation-induced heart problem is fairly small.
