Dana to present New Music concerts

The Dana School of Music will present two winter New Music concerts next week.

The first will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bliss Recital Hall, inside Bliss Hall, on the Youngstown State University campus. The second will be at 7 p.m. March 21 at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, 421 Covington St., Youngstown.

Both events are free and open to the public. A free-will donation will be accepted at the concert at Sts. Peter and Paul.

Featured guest artists Thomas Osuga and Sho Omagari will perform at both concerts and also will give presentations at St. Joseph the Provider and Immaculate Heart of Mary elementary schools.

Osuga, a pianist and Dana alumnus, is a piano soloist and accompanist performing both chamber and solo venues. He is the founder and director of Aurista Chamber Music, a flexible ensemble.

German born Sho Omagari won the 2012 International Music Competition at Pforzheim, Germany, and is past laureate of the 17th International Youth Music Competition, Bulgaria.

At Wednesday’s concert, Dana faculty member Robert Rollin’s “Song and Dance for Violin and Piano” will be premiered. Local composer Richard Zacharias’ quartet also will perform his two-movement suite “Too Far to Walk.” The same group also will premiere senior Samantha Hogan’s “Carpe Diem Overture.” Dana faculty member Allan Mosher’s “Danse des Oiseaux” will be premiered, and senior Carol Ann Smolka will premiere her song “Love Will Be Enough.” The Composers Ensemble, Gwyneth Rollin director, will present Samantha Hogan’s “Sunrise.”

The March 21 concert will feature Aurista Chamber Music.
