Ethnic Heritage Society host folklore stories March 23

The Ethnic Heritage Society will host a presentation with Dr. Regina M. Rees, who will discuss the importance of Old World stories and folklore at 10 a.m. March 23 at Kravitz’s Delicatessen, 3135 Belmont Ave.

Rees will describe ways in which immigrant folklore and oral tradition evolve over time and contribute to a sense of group identity and will consider their importance in the context of the Mahoning Valley. Rees will tell several stories as part of her presentation.

Rees earned a doctorate in curricular and instructional studies at the University of Akron and serves as an associate professor in Youngstown State University’s Department of Teacher Education. She is an official “Eclectic Reader” storyteller for the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society.

The program is open to the public with an admission fee of $5. Refreshments will be served.
