Austintown man dies in single-car accident on Belmont Ave. in Vienna

VIENNA

Dale C. Johnstone, 60, of Kimberly Avenue in Austintown died in a single-car accident on Belmont Avenue just north of Crew-Hood Road at 4:53 p.m. Friday.

Johnstone, who was alone in the car, was northbound on state Route 193 when the car went left, crossed over the southbound lanes and hit a tree. He was trapped in the vehicle, and had to be removed with a mechanical device.

He was pronounced dead later at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate, but it appears Johnstone was not wearing a seat belt.

Woman, grandson escape house fire that caused about $67,000 in damage

AUSTINTOWN

A woman and her grandson escaped unharmed from a 2:40 p.m. fire at the home at 6835 New Road near Turner Road Friday.

Firefighters say the fire started in the kitchen, but the cause is undetermined.

It caused about $67,000 in damage. The Cardinal Joint Fire District assisted.

Pavilion rentals available in Beaver

NORTH LIMA

The Beaver Township Park Board has a limited number of dates available to rent pavilions for 2013. Cost is $55 for residents and $85 for nonresidents for the Memorial Park Pavilion, located behind the former South Range High School; and Woodworth Park, on Luther Avenue between Market Street and Southern Boulevard.

Pavilions may be used by the public May 1 through Oct. 31. To obtain an application, call 330-549-9552.The park board also is looking to hire two seasonal maintenance workers to do light work around the township parks and clean the pavilions.

Christmas cleanups at cemeteries

Spring cleanups of all Christmas decorations have been scheduled for these area cemeteries:

Girard City Cemetery, through March 24. After that date, employees will remove any remaining decorations in preparation for Easter and Memorial Day.

Lake Park Cemetery, 1459 E. Midlothian Blvd., Boardman, will begin Friday. All Christmas and artificial decorations must be removed by that date.

All Canfield cemeteries, decorations must be retrieved by Friday.

Belmont Park Cemetery, 3346 Belmont Ave., Liberty, decorations and wreaths must be removed by Friday. For information call 330-759-2764.

St. Stephen Cemetery, Warren Avenue, Niles, by March 17. Those that remain will be discarded.
