Youth swimmer wins event, heads to regionals

Boardman’s Noah Basista proved to be one of the top 11-year-old breaststroke swimmers in the state by winning the 11 to 12-year-old division in the 50-yard breaststroke at the YMCA North East Ohio League Championships at Cleveland State University March 2.

As a member of the Youngstown YMCA Neptunes, Basista’s winning time of 32.88 places him on the national charts for his age bracket. He also qualified in five events for the YMCA Great Lake’s Zone Championships March 15-16 at Bowling Green State University. This meet consists of the best swimmers from the neighboring five states. He will be swimming the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 individual medley and two relay events.
