POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

March 4

Burglary: To an apartment in the 6400 block of Diana Drive through a side window, though police found no signs of forced entry. Stolen was $100.

March 5

Burglary: Occurred in the 7400 block of Struthers Road via a rear door. Fifty feet of copper piping was removed.

BOARDMAN

March 1

Theft: A woman stole three eye-shadow bottles from Ulta Beauty, 403 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Matthew D. Schenck, 32, of Butler, Pa., was charged with stealing 11 articles of clothing valued at $380 from the J.C. Penney store in the Southern Park Mall.

Criminal damaging: A lamp-post light was smashed in a front yard in the 700 block of Squirrel Hill Court.

Arrest: Youngstown police handed to township authorities 21-year-old Jason N. Dirocco, 188 Stadium Drive, Boardman, who was wanted on a theft charge related to a November shoplifting situation at Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road. Dirocco also was wanted on a warrant charging him with endangering children.

Theft: A man in his mid-50s stole two lighters from Smoker Friendly, 4927 Market St.

Menacing: A Southwoods Drive man said he received a series of threatening text messages.

Identity fraud: A Simon Road woman discovered someone had opened several credit-card accounts in her name without authorization, then learned someone tried to buy $1,765 worth of merchandise online with her information.

Theft: A woman in the 50 block of Prestwick Drive noticed $700 missing from her purse.

Arrests: Deion R. White, 22, of 1516 Homewood Ave. SE, Warren, and Vir’dez A. Evans, 23, of 2284 Burton St. SE, Warren, were taken into custody when police pulled them over on Market Street. Both were wanted on warrants accusing them of failing to appear in court.

Arrests: Members of the Boardman Police Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit acting on a search warrant took into custody Montrell T. Hightower, 25, and Yolanda V. Hightower, 40, both of 167 Shadyside Drive, Boardman. Montrell Hightower was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia; Yolanda Hightower was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

March 2

Theft: Two Warren boys, 16 and 17, were charged in the theft of seven pairs of jeans from the J.C. Penney store. The older boy also faced a felony vandalism charge after being accused of pushing open and damaging a door while fleeing.

Theft/criminal damaging: A man at a Market Street motel stole a nightstand from a room after damaging a TV stand, a floor lamp, a cable line and two desk-drawer handles.

Theft: A worker for a Crossroads Drive business noticed $500 missing from her wallet.

Theft: An Oakley Avenue man told police he paid $2,700 for home repairs that were never done.

Misuse of a credit card: A Tippecanoe Road woman found at least seven unauthorized credit-card charges totaling more than $250.

Criminal mischief: A lamp post was damaged in a yard in the 7500 block of Sugartree Drive.

Domestic violence: Ray C. Anderson Jr., 26, of 2805 San Pedro Court, Youngstown, was charged with the crime as township police assisted an Ohio State Highway Patrol officer who was fighting with four people in the 6900 block of South Avenue. The trooper reportedly saw Anderson strike and knock down his sister, a report showed.

Stolen property: Police charged 43-year-old Wanda M. Duck, 48 E. Delason Ave., Youngstown, with one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property after an $18 shirt was taken from Dots, 1200 Doral Drive. Duck also had three pieces of jewelry thought to have been stolen from another township store, a report said.

March 3

Theft: Officers picked up Kristy L. McFarland, 37, who was wanted on a theft charge. McFarland, of 53 Centervale Ave., Boardman, also was charged with possession of a drug-abuse instrument when, police said, she had a hypodermic syringe.

Theft: A vehicle check in the 6200 block of South Avenue led to the arrest of 25-year-old Tiffany S. Lewis, 2612 Hunter Ave., Youngstown. She was wanted on a felony theft charge from Austintown.

Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 led to a charge of operating a vehicle impaired against 21-year-old Jacob R. Vanfossan, 3120 Patriot Drive, New Waterford.

Intimidation: An official with a Southern Park Mall store alleged the mother of a 16-year-old boy who had been arrested during a shoplifting situation threatened to beat her up.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 1500 block of Brandon Avenue drove through and damaged part of a lawn.

Theft: A man in his late 20s stole a $349 mixer from Bed, Bath and Beyond, 550 Boardman-Poland Road.

March 4

Burglary: Took place in the 4000 block of Stratford Road, likely through a front window, where five pieces of jewelry were taken.

Felonious assault: Mikki D. Jones, 35, of 4005 Hopkins Road, Boardman, faced felonious-assault and domestic-violence charges after her husband alleged Jones had twice used a knife to cut his left arm during an argument. Police found blood on a couch, carpeting and a bathroom floor, a report said.

Theft: Matthew N. Maker of 235 North Ave., Struthers, was charged with theft and possession of criminal tools after three computer storage drives were stolen from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. The 22-year-old Maker also used a razor blade to cut the packages, police said.

Identity fraud: An Oakridge Drive man told police he received 10 to 15 bills totaling roughly $2,000 for merchandise he never bought.

Misuse of a credit card: A Truesdale Road man noticed a fraudulent $96 online charge to his debit card.

Theft: A woman reported the theft of two gold necklaces from her Dover Road home. The loss came to about $3,000.

Theft by deception: A Leetonia man told officers his vehicle remains inoperable at an East Western Reserve Road shop several months after he had taken it there and paid for repairs.

March 5

Criminal damaging: A car in the 7400 block of Huntington Drive was found with its passenger-side tires slashed.

Arrest: Police responding to a loud argument in the 600 block of Boardman-Canfield Road arrested Jennasa R. Moore, 21, of 527 Cameron Ave., Youngstown, on a bench warrant from the city. She also was cited on a charge of public intoxication.

Criminal damaging: Someone placed a golf ball-sized dent in a vehicle’s hood in the 8300 block of South Avenue.

Attempted fraud: An elderly Mill Creek Boulevard man told police a caller claiming to be his grandson had been arrested in Panama and needed $1,953 wired to him. The man was warned it was a scam, however, and lost no money, a report showed.

Harassment: A man reportedly made four or five such calls to a Shields Road day-care center.

Identity fraud: A Maple Drive man found out someone had tried to buy merchandise with his credit-card information but without consent.

Attempted burglary: Someone tried to break into an apartment in the 900 block of Cook Avenue through the front door. A male was seen running from the building.

Theft: Justin K. Dyer, 24, was charged. Dyer, of 5875 Weaver Road, Berlin Center, was accused of stealing a $175 men’s jacket and a shirt from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.

Theft: A woman reported her $300 iPhone stolen while at the Southern Park Mall.

March 6

Possible theft: An employee with a Southern Park Mall store discovered her cellphone was lost or stolen.
