Senior citizens unite
The Holy Family Senior Citizens Social Club, a group for seniors age 55 and over, meets the third Monday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The meetings include a brief meeting, lunch, raffle, bingo and card games, and take place at Holy Family Parish Hall, 2729 Center Road. Poland Historical Society to meet March 19
The Poland Historical Society will meet on March 19 at 7 p.m. at the Little Red Schoolhouse, located at 4515 Center Road in Poland Township. Members may renew their membership at this meeting and new members are welcome to join at this time. Annual membership dues are $10. The society relies on membership dues and donations to continue its efforts to maintain the Little Red Schoolhouse built in 1858 and to host educational programs about the history of Poland.
Following the meeting, Larry Baughman’s presentation will be, “How to Research and Grow Your Family Tree.” He will talk about how to gather genealogy research material, where to find information, including online websites, how to manually or electronically document information and how to create a family tree manually or with a software program.
Easter egg hunt set
The Poland Junior Women’s Club will host an Easter egg hunt on March 23 at 1 p.m. at Poland Town Hall Gazebo and Grounds. For children through fourth grade.
Poland graduate named to Dean’s list
Molly Porter, Poland Seminary graduate, was named to the Dean’s list at The College of Wooster. To be named to the Dean’s list, students must achieve a GPA of 3.65 or above.
Registration open for Women’s Heart Day
Registration for the 10th annual Woman’s Heart Day, a free health and wellness extravaganza provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners, opens April 1.
Provided as a service to the community, Woman’s Heart Day will take place on May 9 from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covelli Centre. This annual event features free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, educational presentations on a variety of women’s health issues, cooking demonstrations, spa services, refreshments and giveaways.
Among the health screenings offered this year are bone density, lipid panel (cholesterol) and A1c testing, blood pressure readings, vision screenings, stroke risk and skin cancer risk assessments.
Registration is required and appointments for bone density, lipid panel and A1c testing are limited.

Celebrate Poland committee to meet March 16
The Celebrate Poland committee will host a community meeting March 16 at 10 a.m. in Wittenauers Cafe’s Community Room. The meeting is open to anyone interested in getting involved with the community event.
Naturopathic Thyroid Care Seminar held Thursday
Dr. Ted Suzelis, N.D., will present a free seminar titled, “Naturopathic Thyroid Care” on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at his Boardman office, located in South Bridge West (behind Second Sole) at 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite D-3.
Whether your thyroid is overactive or underactive, there are natural options to assist you. In this seminar, Suzelis will discuss naturopathic options for thyroid health.
He will discuss synthetic versus natural thyroid hormone replacement, when is it appropriate to forgo thyroid replacement altogether and what are the natural options for those with an overactive thyroid, including when pregnant or breast-feeding. The lecture will be beneficial for those who already have thyroid issues, along with people who want to keep their thyroid healthy.

Newcomers meeting Tuesday
The Newcomers Club of Canfield, formerly known as Welcome Wagon Club of Canfield, will hold its March meeting on Tuesday.

The Newcomers Club of Canfield is open to all women in the Mahoning Valley. It provides an opportunity for members in the community to welcome newcomers, engage in recreational and social activities and to help support the civic, social and charitable life of the community.
Writers meeting set
Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend the next meeting of Monday Night Writers, March 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peaberry’s Caf , 4350 Boardman-Canfield Road. Led by author and professional writer Nancy Christie, the two-hour sessions include a mix of writing exercises, information on the creative and business aspects of writing, and group feedback on ‘works-in-progress.’

St. Anthony’s Auxiliary to meet Monday
St. Anthony’s Auxiliary of Struthers will meet on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Johnny’s Restaurant on Market Street. President, Arlene DeChellis, will present the schedule of events for the coming year.
ABWA meeting Wednesday
Tri-Gold Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will meet Wednesday at the Manor, 46 Kirk Road. A social will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a buffet at 6 p.m. Dinner will include baked chicken, penne pasta and meatballs, red skin potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad and beverage. Cost is $17. Screen your blood pressure
The Boardman library will host a blood pressure screening by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross on March 26 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Camera Club hosts meetings

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic set
The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will be at Squaw Creek at Avalon Golf and Country Club on July 15. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Eat with the Easter bunny
Tickets are now on sale for Dinner with the Easter Bunny on March 27-28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lariccia Family Community Center in Boardman Park. Tickets can be purchased at the park office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets are $6 for Boardman residents and $7 for non-residents. Children under 18 months are admitted free. Cost includes dinner, arts and crafts, and a family photo with the Easter Bunny.
Easter egg hunt March 23
The free Easter Egg and Goodie Bag Hunt at Boardman Park will be March 23. The event will be for children 8 and under. Bring your baskets and arrive early. Dress for the weather. Times are:

The Poland library will host Pajama Jam: Sleepy-Time Fun for the Family on March 25 at 6:30 p.m. Put on your PJs, bring out the whole family and come for stories and more fun.
Color away at the library
Stop in the Poland Library or visit our website through March 24 to receive a St. Patrick’s Day coloring sheet. Return the completed coloring sheet or any St. Patrick’s Day art you have created to the Poland Library and receive a glow-in-the-dark bracelet. Look for your art to be displayed in the Poland Library. For children of all ages.
Local preschool offers new hours, classes
Poland Presbyterian Church Preschool and Daycare offers services for children ages 2 1/2 years to kindergarten. Preschool is available for younger children from 9 a.m. until noon and for older Pre-K children from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Poland Presbyterian is now offering “home away from home” before preschool and after preschool hours. The Poland library will host a blood drive on March 28 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. for the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross. Donations will serve the needs of St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Friends of the Poland Library meeting set
Friends of the Poland Library will meet on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Poland Library. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m. with the program and business meeting to follow. Hostesses will be Marian Gillette, Angela Bilkie, Carol McCoy and Peg Shirey. Leslie Viczay will present the program on Imperial Russia. Reservations for the April 2 luncheon may be made at the meeting. Payment for the luncheon must be received by March 18. Donations of books, magazines, CD’ and DVDs will be accepted for the book cart. The meetings are open to the public and new members are welcome. Membership is $5 a year.
Attend Lenten reflection series
The ecumenical leadership team from Poland Presbyterian Church, Poland United Methodist Church, Heritage Presbyterian Church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Church of the Rock and Holy Family Church are teaming up for a Lenten reflection series titled “People of the Passion” on March 6, 13 and 20 at Holy Family Parish Center. Presentations will be from noon to 12:15 with a lunch immediately following until 1 p.m. Presentations are free and luncheon tickets can be purchased at any of the above church offices. Deadline to purchase tickets is the Monday preceding each Wednesday luncheon.

All branches of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be closed on March 30 and 31 for Easter.
Woman of the Year celebration set
The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will hold its Woman of the Year celebration on March 12 at Cafe Capri at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will include a dinner of mixed green salad, roast beef au jus, chicken francaise, penne pasta, garlic buttered potatoes, tuscan bread, beverages and dessert. The cost is $19.
The newly-crowned Woman of the Year will represent the chapter at Fall Convention in Little Rock. The guest speaker for the event will the director of the Mahoning Library, Heide M. Daniels. Reservations must be made by March 5 by calling Kathy Anderson at 330-533-6675 after 4 p.m.
Take boating safety course
Mosquito Lake Power Squadron is offering America’s Boating Course, considered to be part of America’s premier boating education.
This United States Power Squadrons boating course includes essential information on all types of water sports. Completion of this course meets all federal requirements and exceeds all Ohio mandatory and age requirements. Instruction is free, with a nominal $30 fee for course materials.
The six-session course began on March 5 at 6 p.m. at Gander Mountain in Niles. The remaining schedule is March 12, 14, 19 and 21.

Rivers Casino bus trip set
The Relay for Life Team sponsored by the Mill Creek ABWA will host a bus trip to River’s Casino tomorrow. The bus will pick up passengers at Fab Limo in Austintown at 1 p.m. and at K-Mart on Route 224 at 1:15 p.m. Return time will be between 8:30 and 9 p.m.

The cost is $35 and includes $20 for the slots and a $5 food voucher. Refreshments and games will be provided on the bus to the casino.
Church hosts spaghetti dinner
Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Dr. will host its semi-annual Mickey Schuster Scholarship Spaghetti Dinner on March 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Carry outs will be available. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the church office at 330-758-5745. Dinners include pasta with meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and drink.
All proceeds go to the Mickey Shuster Scholarship Fund and are distributed each year to the college students at Bethel.
Kick off Relay for Life
The Poland Relay for Life will host its kick-off open house on March 28 at the Poland Memorial Baptist Church, 56 Water St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The public and all teams are encouraged to attend. The open house will celebrate the 100th birthday of the American Cancer Society and will offer free refreshments, a 50/50 raffle, face painting and a variety of items for sale.
All proceeds will be donated to the Poland Relay for Life.

On March 15, Making Kids Count will host its first benefit dinner at Avion on the Water in Canfield. Proceeds from the event will go to the various programs Making Kids Count sponsors. This event will include dinner, dessert, a cash bar, chance auction and entertainment. Invitations will be mailed in February.
