Poland librarian Amanda Kollar led the Valentine’s Day-themed story time at the Poland library Feb. 12 by asking children what things came to mind when they thought of Valentine’s Day.

She also showed children pictures of objects that began with the letter “V” and asked the children to guess the names of those objects.

Children sang songs like “Heart” to the tune of “Bingo” and searched around the room for hearts that Kollar had hidden earlier that day. Kollar also read Valentine’s-themed books, like “My Funny Valentine,” about all the things that valentines go through when they are mailed, “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose,” and “The Day It Rained Hearts,” about a girls who catches enough hearts to make valentines for all of her friends.

Kollar also led children through a series of Valentine’s Day-themed activities, like “Six Little Valentines,” which encouraged counting skills. Kollar ended the program with a Valentine’s Day craft where children glued two hearts together and made a puppet to play with on Valentine’s Day.
