For the second time this school year, students at Hilltop Elementary School participated in a PTO-sponsored Box Tops for Education month-long contest to raise money for the school.
The three students who brought in the most Box Tops were each awarded a Toys R Us gift card and the class which brought in the most Box Tops combined was given an ice cream party.
Third-grader Elizabeth Keller was the top box topper, bringing in 376 Box Tops. Second-grader Evan Parker was second with 334 Box Tops and fourth-grader Trent Childers was third with 325 Box Tops.
Edith Narducci’s second-grade class was the grand prize winner again with 1,052 Box Tops and the students were rewarded with an ice cream sundae party provided by the PTO Feb. 28.
“For the month of January, we turned in a total of $853.70. To date, our total for Box Tops is $2,631.94. We have surpassed our goal of $2,500. We have earned over $1,500 more than last year,” said Deon Vrabel, PTO Box Tops for Education chairperson.
According to Vrabel, she will be tracking Box Tops through the end of May for an end-of-the-year contest.
“Students should continue to bring in their Box Tops because I will be adding them all up at the end of the school year and the top three students will be recognized. We are also adding a family contest and the Hilltop family which brings in the most Box Tops for the school will receive a special prize,” Vrabel said.
The school receives 10 cents per box top from the Box Tops for Education program, which was started by General Mills in 1996.
