Health board: Give notice of drilling
Health board: Give notice of drilling
pittsburgh
The Allegheny County Board of Health wants natural-gas companies to provide 24-hour notice before drilling starts.
The board passed the recommendation unanimously Wednesday night. Authorities say they want the notice so air pollution can be monitored at drill sites.
Pittsburgh is in Allegheny County.
The requirement covers shale-gas extraction, including well drilling and hydraulic fracturing or fracking.
The county recently approved a long-term contract for gas drilling on thousands of acres around Pittsburgh International Airport.
The plan still must be approved by the Allegheny County Council and county executive Rich Fitzgerald.
Market District pasta sauce recalled

The food manufacturer Summer Garden announced a product recall Wednesday involving 2,400 jars of Market District Bolognese pasta sauce.
The product contains soy, a wheat allergen, and a small amount of MSG. The company failed to label the sauce, meaning the ingredients are not identified.
A spokesman said the risks are low.
Consumers should return the product.
A spokesman with Giant Eagle, which received fewer than 1,000 jars of the sauce, said anyone without an allergy to the ingredients will not be affected.
Giant Eagle is working to contact customers who might have purchased the Bolognese.
The grocer is offering a refund.
