Indoor track competes at Arnold Classic
The Boardman boys indoor track team sent varsity runners to the Arnold Classic High School Indoor Open Track Meet March 2 at French Fieldhouse, on the campus of The Ohio State University. The meet was a part of the weekend-long ‘Arnold Classic’ that celebrates sports, fitness and nutrition. Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared at the meet and spoke to all of the athletes and coaches and posed for pictures with some of the Spartans.
Highlighting the Spartans’ success was junior Mark Hadley, finishing first in the 1600-meter run, Hadley’s time of 4:16 qualifies him for this weekend’s Elite Level Race at The New Balance National Meet in New York City.
Also qualifying for a trip to New York City was freshman Brendon Lucas, who will compete in the freshman 60 meters after posting a 7.60. They will be joined by senior Nathan Jones (Elite 60) and freshman Nathan Hadley (freshman 1600). Also, senior and national qualifier Jones was fourth overall in the 60 at 7.11.
National qualifier Nathan Hadley was 10th in the 1600 at 4:44 and seventh in the 800 at 2:06. Senior Will Birchfield was 16th in the 60 hurdles at 8.82. The 4x800 meter relay team of senior Sam Sheronovich, freshman Adam Deeley, senior Pete Stafford, and sophomore Nick Long was eighth. Mark Hadley placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:04. Junior Justin Maroni placed seventh overall in the 3200 with a time of 10:03.
Junior Jeff Bean was 10th in the high jump at 5-9. Senior Chris Riwniak was fourth in the shot put at 49-8.75 and the 4x400 meter relay team of Sheronovich, freshman Dana Penson, freshman Andrew Gable and Lucas was sixth in a time of 3:50.
The indoor track season will conclude with this weekend’s national meet and the following Saturday’s state meet in Akron.
