Niles ex-boosters president gets 5 years' probation

WARREN

James A. Mullen III, 46, of Coates Court in Girard, former president of the Niles Frontliners football boosters organization, has been sentenced to five years probation for stealing more than $21,000 from the organization.

Mullen pleaded guilty to a bill of information Jan. 28 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court charging him with felony theft. Judge Ronald Rice sentenced Mullen Thursday.

Police said Mullen wrote more than $21,000 in unauthorized checks from the organization’s bank account from May to June 2012.

Mullen resigned after the organization’s treasurer confronted him about the money. Mullen eventually paid it back.
