Fire destroys Liberty Township home this morning

LIBERTY — The American Red Cross is assisting a township family displaced after an early morning fire that destroyed their Belmont Avenue home.

Firefighters were called to 5814 Belmont at 5:36 a.m. They arrived to find more than half of the single-family home engulfed. The house is a total loss with most floors burned away and about $40,000 in damages, fire officials said.

A woman and two children lived in the house, but fire officials said they were not at home when the fire started.

A cause for the blaze has not yet been determined.
