Ohio man found guilty of killing his 2-year-old son

CINCINNATI (AP) — A jury has found an Ohio man guilty of murder and felonious assault in the beating death of his 2-year-old son who was returned to his parents from foster care.

A prosecutor’s spokesman says a Hamilton County jury today did not find 30-year-old Antrone Smith guilty of the aggravated murder charge against him, and he won’t face the death penalty. He could face up to life in prison.

Smith said he punched DeMarcus Jackson in the stomach the day before his son died Oct. 21, 2011, of blunt force trauma to his abdomen. Smith said he didn’t mean to kill him.

The prosecutor earlier determined that no charges would be filed against county Jobs and Family Services workers.
