Two Youngstown firefighters, George Zordich, 32, and Justin Quarles, 33, were promoted to lieutenant in a ceremony Friday at the main fire station downtown, conducted by Mayor Charles Sammarone. Zordich has been with the fire department since January 2003, and Quarles, since April 1999.
March for Babies ValleyCare Health System of Ohio’s Robert Wolleben, chief executive officer of Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, and Kirk Ray, chief executive officer of Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, are co-chairmen of the local 2013 March for Babies. Registration for the May 19 event at Youngstown State University begins at 11 a.m.; the walk is at noon. March for Babies, the March of Dimes’ largest annual fundraiser, raises funds to help babies have a healthier start to life. Recent statistics show an average of one baby in the Mahoning Valley will die every week before his or her first birthday, and the leading cause is prematurity. This year’s goal for the Valley is $175,000. For information or to register, visit www.marchforbabies.org.
Driver robbed
WARREN
A 19-year-old delivery driver for Pizza Hut was robbed at gunpoint at 444 Scott St. NE at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The driver said two males approached him wearing masks as he approached the door to the house. One had a handgun pointed at him, and one said, “Drop everything” and “pull out the money.” The driver dropped the pizza and gave the men about $20. They took the pizza and cash and ran through yards. Police were called after the driver returned to the restaurant. Police checked the 444 Scott area but found only a receipt on the ground.
Vehicular assault
WARREN
Fred Jordan, 25, of South Street pleaded innocent Friday in municipal court to a felony charge of vehicular assault after he was accused of twice crashing into another man’s car Thursday. He was released on a personal recognizance bond. A 25-year-old Howland man said Jordan intentionally crashed into his car at the USA Gas Station, 317 Pine Ave. SE, at 12:58 p.m. Thursday. The victim said Jordan chased him on South Street, so he pulled into the gas station, but the suspect followed and hit his car on the driver’s side, flattening the rear tire.
Jordan then drove to the other side of the car, hitting it on the right fender area, blocking it in, the victim said. Jordan said the victim owes him money, but the victim denied that.
