The Austintown library hosted an event, led by librarian Hayley McEwing, just for preschoolers (children ages 4-5) Feb. 20 in its children’s room.

The story time focused on warmth, staying warm and differences and similarities. The event began with a reading of “Winter is the Warmest Season.” This book discusses one boy’s reasons behind his decision that winter is the warmest season, not summer, including that hugs are tighter, food is warmer, hot chocolate abounds and parties are closer.

Children were then given shakers and they danced to the song “Hot Chocolate” from the movie “The Polar Express.”

The next book McEwing read was titled “Same Same” by Marthe Jocelyn. “Same Same” showed three different objects on a page and asked children to find at least one similarity. McEwing also read “Art Museum Opposites” by Katy Friedland, which showed different works of art and asked children to note the differences between them.

Another activity at the story time had the children perform actions to show the opposite of words said by McEwing. The story time ended with a craft of pretend hot chocolate with cotton balls as marshmallows.
