Grand jury indicts former Poland band volunteer on abduction, public indecency charges
YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury has indicted a former Poland school band volunteer on abduction and public-indecency charges.
Kevin Downs, 47, of Challis Lane, Poland, was indicted Thursday. The abduction charge is a third- degree felony, and the public-indecency charge is a misdemeanor.
Downs is free on a $1,000 bond.
According to the indictment, the alleged incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Dec. 21 at Downs’ Chablis Lane home. Poland Township police have said the victim is a minor but declined to release more information at this point.
Downs is founder of the local band Redline and KAD School of Percussion, where he offers private percussion lessons. He had been a volunteer at Poland schools teaching percussion until his arrest. He is not permitted on school grounds until the case is resolved.
