Boardman runners qualify for national meet

The Boardman boys indoor track team competed at The WATTS Center at YSU on Feb. 16 — its third meet of the season.
Highlighting the Spartans’ success was freshman Nathan Hadley, placing ninth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:38. That time qualifies him for his first appearance in the New Balance National Indoor Track Meet in New York City the weekend of March 9.
He will join teammate and brother, Mark, who placed first overall in the 1600 with a YSU indoor record time of 4:18. He was also second in the 800 at 1:58. Also competing in New York will be senior Nathan Jones, who placed third overall in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.08.
Junior Alan Burns was second in the 1600 and sixth in the 800-meter run with times of 4:30 and 2:03, respectively. Senior Will Birchfield was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.80 and junior Jeff Bean was sixth at 8.91. Junior Justin Maroni was 14th in the 1600 in a time of 4:44. Senior Sam Sheronovich in 25th at 4:56.
Sophomore Nick Long was 14th in the 3200 at 11:13. Freshman Brendon Lucas was 15th in the 400 at 56.07 and Bean was ninth in the high jump at 5-6. In the pole vault, sophomore Dan Liptak was eighth at 9-0 and in the shot put, senior Chris Riwniak was eighth with a throw of 45-4.25.
