MVHS honors veterans this weekend

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will celebrate the Fourth of July with an appreciation weekend honoring active military personnel and veterans at the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave.

The event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and next Sunday. Admission to the museum is free for all military personnel and their families all three days.

Games and crafts for kids, a basket raffle, food and drink will be offered outdoors.

Guests will be asked to add a message or a thank-you to a banner for military personnel.

Guest speakers will visit the Carriage House at 2 p.m. each day.

Judge Robert Milich of Youngstown Municipal Court, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, will speak Friday; Carl Nunziato, a retired Army major, will speak Saturday; and Maj. Brent Davis of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station will speak Sunday.

Military artifacts from the society’s collection and archives will be on display.

Nonmilitary families will receive half-price admission with donations of non- perishable food items or toiletries.

The goods will be sent to the Youngstown Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic on Belmont Avenue.

There is no cost for the outdoor activities and speakers.
