YOUNGSTOWN

Grow Youngstown will host “Healthy Eating, Healthy Living” cooking classes with Vel Scott from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each Wednesday, beginning this Wednesday, through Aug. 7 at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane.

In six sessions, Scott will teach participants to cook more healthful versions of familiar dishes and provide creative ways to add vegetables and good grains to meals.

Scott, owner of former nightclub Vels at University Circle in Cleveland, is a community advocate and a leader in the movement to bring nutrition and healthful living into everyday life.

She has been featured in The Plain Dealer of Cleveland, Cleveland Magazine, Edible Cleveland and Call and Post of Cleveland.

Participants in the classes will be provided a tool kit that includes a blender, cutting board, knife, steel and apron, as well as a resource guide.

There will be enough food to take home and share with family after each class.

The majority of seats will go to Grow Youngstown’s partnering organizations, which includes the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, Beatitude House, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and the Urban Community Victory Garden.

Eight spots have been reserved for the general public. Register by emailing pandp@growyoungstown.org or calling 330-286-0688.
