Public art project at YSU festival

YOUNGSTOWN

The Summer Festival of the Arts is collaborating with Art Youngstown to produce and exhibit a fourth public art project, “The Square Foot Project.”

Artists are invited to embellish a 12-inch-by- 12-inch tile incorporating the number 15 into their original idea. Tiles will be displayed during Youngstown State University’s Summer Festival of the Arts July 13 and 14.

Artists are encouraged to use recycled or repurposed materials as their media.

The tiles will be supplied by Art Youngstown.

There is no cost to participate, and artists can be professional or amateur.

Artists must be at least 16 years old and must pre-register by emailing festival coordinator Lori Factor at lafactor@ysu.edu or by calling 330-941-3105.

Materials can be picked up today at YSU’s Bliss Hall near the University Theater box office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hern Brothers at Thunder bike rally

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

The Hern Brothers Band will perform at 9 tonight at Thunder in the Cascades motorcycle rally at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, 464 Midway Road.

Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. today for two concerts coming to Kent Stage, 175 E. Main St., Kent.

Ukelele master Jake Shimabukuro comes to the hall at 8 p.m. Aug. 13. Tickets are $36 and $26.

Glass Harp, the power trio from Youngstown that flirted with national fame in the early ’70s, will perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 4. Tickets are $55 and $40.
