School-shooting fund suit goes to mediation

CHARDON

A Geauga County judge has ordered mediation in a lawsuit over a fund meant to benefit families of victims in a school shooting and support the affected community.

Relatives of three teenagers killed at Chardon High School sued United Way, which maintains the fund. They said it wasn’t properly administered.

United Way contends the fund is managed transparently according to its purpose.

If they don’t settle the case by July 31, the judge’s Thursday order mandates that portions of the fund be set aside for the families and community needs while a trial is pending.
