Robinwood Lane Elementary School participated in the Relay for Life for the 20th year May 17 and 18. The team, made up of teachers and faculty from the school, raised $2,400 this year for the American Cancer Society.

The team raised money in a variety of ways.

“We offered theme-days for the students, including hat day, pajama day, green money day, mismatch day and sports day,” said Jan Johnson, second-grade teacher and relay team captain.

In order to participate in the different theme-days, students were asked to donate $1 or more. Teachers and staff also donated to the cause.

“A staff member is allowed to wear jeans on Fridays if they donate $50 a year,” said Kim Gorski, librarian and relay team captain.

Robinwood has continually participated in the relay because cancer has affected many people surrounding the school.

“So many people in the building have been affected by cancer, so we do the relay every year,” said Johnson.
