Girls track members qualify for state

Four members of the Boardman girls track team qualified in five events for the recent regional track and field meet at Austintown Fitch High School. The top four in each event from the regional meet then qualified for the Ohio State Meet to be in Columbus on The Ohio State University campus.

Senior Giovanna Silvestri qualified in two events to the regionals and when the meet concluded, she qualified to the state meet in the discus for the second year in a row. Her throw of 127’3” granted her third place and another trip to the state meet. In the shot put, she threw 38’8.25”, finishing in fifth place.

Junior Morgan Hambrick finished in eighth place in the high jump with a height of 5’2”, concluding a strong season after suffering a torn ACL injury last year. Senior Sarina Mauerman finished her successful Boardman track career by vaulting 9’6” and taking 13th place in the meet. Junior Jada Redd was the only athlete to make it to the regional meet in a running event, qualifying in the 400-meter dash and placing 13th with a time of 62.67.

Head Coach Denise Gorski was very happy with her her athletes and coaching staff. She praised individual athletes and their mentors in their success throughout the season as well as at this meet.

Benefit golf outing set

The Brett Wilcox benefit golf outing will be July 21 at Lakeside Golf Course. Shot gun start will begin at 9 a.m. The cost is $65 per golfer or $250 for a foursome. Cost includes coffee and doughnuts at registration, lunch, dinner and drinks. Sponsorships are available for $100 for a hole sponsor or $350 for a gold sponsor.

First place will receive $400 and second place $200. In addition, there will be a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and a 50-inch TV raffle.
