Facing drug charge

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who police said ran a stop sign early Tuesday was taken to Mahoning County jail after officers found drugs hidden inside a flashlight on his key chain.

According to reports, police pulled over a car at West Boston and Trenton avenues about 2:05 a.m. driven by Leontre D. Floyd, 38, for running the light.

When officers searched the car and took his keys, they noticed the flashlight on his key chain was lighter than usual and it did not work. An officer took the cap off and found suspected crack cocaine and a pill inside. Police charged Floyd with drug possession.

Forgery sentence

WARREN

Sharon R. Vankanegan, 48, of State Street, Kinsman, has been sentenced to 30 days in Trumbull County jail after pleading guilty to forgery and misuse of credit cards relating to her work at the Kinsman Free Library from August 2010 to January 2012.

Vankanegan will report to the jail Sept. 25. She previously paid restitution of $6,990.

She received her sentence Wednesday from Judge W. Wyatt McKay of common pleas court.

Free produce offered

WARREN

The Warren City Schools Food Service Department, in cooperation with the Ohio Association of Food Banks, will have a Mobile Farmers Market on Friday in two locations: Laird Community Garden, 565 Laird Ave. SE, 11 a.m. to noon; and Agape Assembly, 426 Nevada St. SW, from noon to 1 p.m.

Free produce will be distributed. Produce includes oranges, bananas, collard greens, sweet corn, cucumbers, cabbage and watermelons.

Street closing

Youngstown

Augusta Street between Penn Avenue and Hine Street will be closed from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday to accommodate a community block party.

Relief from heat

new middletown

New Middletown Mayor Harry Kale said anyone who needs relief from the heat can go to the municipal building, 10711 Main St., where cold water will be available. He added that village residents should check regularly on their elderly neighbors, sick relatives and pets during the heat wave.
