Struthers man arrested on copper theft charge

YOUNGSTOWN

A Struthers man was arrested Wednesday evening for theft after he was caught trying to steal scrap copper from his employer, Allied Erecting and Dismantling on Poland Avenue.

Charles Greenwalt Jr. of West Como Street was spotted by the shift supervisor walking with a red cooler to his company truck twice during his lunch break at the main scrap yard. The supervisor told police it seemed “suspicious” because Greenwalt was leaning toward the side of the cooler as if he were carrying something heavy, according to a report.

The supervisor checked the truck after Greenwalt went back to work, and discovered $150 worth of scrap copper inside the cooler. He told his superintendent, who then called police.

They both confronted Greenwalt, and he admitted he took the copper because he needed extra money for his sick father-in-law. They searched the truck for any other copper, but didn’t find any.

Greenwalt was arrested and released on a misdemeanor summons. Police transported him to Boardman where it was discovered he had an arrest warrant. He was taken into custody by Boardman police.
