Ohio mom takes plea in boys' camping deaths
ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — After her first trial and prison sentence were thrown out by an appeals court, an Ohio mother took a plea deal and was sentenced to three years in prison in the drowning of her 3-year-old son and the disappearance of his 2-year-old brother during a camping trip.
Kasey Klein, 27, pleaded guilty to child endangering on Monday, less than two weeks after her husband, Richard, was acquitted by a jury in the June 2011 deaths of the children in the Muskingum River in eastern Ohio.
Kasey Klein’s attorney, Eric Allen, told the court that she was agreeing to a plea deal instead of risking a longer prison sentence if convicted again at trial.
