Murder indictment

WARREN

Scott H. Walker, 33, has been indicted on charges of murder, felonious assault and endangering children in the June 15 death of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son, Nicholas Partin.

Walker was to be arraigned this morning in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court in front of Judge Andrew Logan. A grand jury handed up the charges Monday.

Police arrested Walker on June 17 in Packard Park after an autopsy revealed that Nicholas died of blunt-force trauma to his abdomen.

Walker’s girlfriend, with whom Walker lived at a home on North Park Extension in Bazetta Township, said Walker hit the boy in the stomach June 14.

The victim’s flag will be raised in front of the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office on High Street at 1 p.m. today in the child’s memory.

An Operating a Vehicle While Impaired checkpoint conducted Friday by Canfield police in Jackson Township resulted in two arrests for driving impaired, according to the Mahoning County OVI Task Force.

Of the 497 vehicles passing through the checkpoint on Mahoning Avenue from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, police investigated 13 vehicles.

In addition to the two arrests, police also issued two citations for not wearing a seat belt and improper backing and two summons for driving under suspension and having an open container.

Board president

YOUNGSTOWN

Atty. Robert G. Lev was elected president of the governing board of the Human Services Department of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, which consists of Heritage Manor, Levy Gardens and Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

Other officers elected are: Marc Rubin, vice president; Jack Safier, treasurer; and Nancy Wagner, secretary. Lev succeeds Gary Clayman who was president from 2010 to 2013.

Lev is a past president of the board of Jewish Family and Children’s Services and a member of the Jewish Community Relations Council. He is a member of the Angels for Animals board and the Ebony Lifeline Support Group.

After working for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and Washington, D.C., law firms for 14 years, Lev returned to Youngstown to practice patent law and operate his own intellectual-property law firm.

Public meeting set

Pills, cash found

Police found more than $2,300 on a man they pulled over for running a stop sign about 1:22 p.m. Sunday in front of a home in the 800 block of Lansdowne Boulevard on the city’s East Side.

Police found the money in the pockets of Frankie C. Torres, 26, who told police after he was pulled over he was driving with a suspended license. Police also found five pills in his pocket.

Police charged him with driving under suspension and possession of dangerous drugs. When he was booked into Mahoning County jail, authorities found a bag of suspected heroin in his underwear, reports said. He was then charged with possession of dangerous drugs and illegal conveyance of a prohibited item into a detention facility.

Singing-bowls concert

The Yoga Room, 2232 Elm Road NE, presents Re-Sounding Joy with Kathleen Calby at 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is $25.

The singing-bowls concert and workshop allows listeners to explore sound as a form of energy, experience a singing bowl’s vibratory presence and relax into a musical massage.

Calby also will discuss the genesis of singing bowls and take questions. She brings 13 years of experience working with sound. Her ensemble includes gem crystal singing bowls plus ancient Himalayan bowls.
