DOCTORS
Sarah N. Pratt and Christina M. Pratt, daughters of Roy and Joyce Pratt of Vienna, recently earned their medical degrees.
Dr. Sarah Pratt graduated from the University of Toledo College of Medicine on June 7 with her doctor of medicine degree. She received her bachelor’s degree with honors in biology, chemistry and cell and molecular biology from John Carroll University. She will begin a general-surgery residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center in July.
Dr. Christina Pratt earned her doctor of podiatric medicine degree from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, Calif., on May 25.
Dr. Christina Pratt received a master’s degree in bioethics from Case Western Reserve University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and neuroscience from John Carroll University. She will begin a podiatric surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic in July.
They are graduates of Mathews High School in Vienna.
William E. Patton recently earned his doctor of optometry degree from Ohio State University’s College of Optometry.
At Ohio State, he was a member and treasurer of Epsilon Psi Epsilon professional optometry fraternity and the Beta Sigma Kappa international optometry honor society.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from John Carroll University and is a 2005 graduate of Canfield High School.
Dr. Patton begins a residency program in July at the Ohio Eye Alliance in Alliance, specializing in ocular disease.
He is the son of Bill and Heidi Patton of Canfield.
doctorate
John Andrew Hay, son of Jack and Charlene Hay of Poland, received his doctorate in English and comparative literature from Columbia University in New York City. Hay submitted and defended his dissertation this April.
His previous schooling includes graduating summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 2007, and earning master’s degrees in arts and philosophy from Columbia. He graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 2003 as class valedictorian.
He will begin a full-time faculty position in the English department of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas in August
LAWYERS
Kelly Newbrough earned his juris doctorate degree from the University of Akron School of Law. He is the son of James and Jenny Newbrough.
Newbrough will take the Ohio Supreme Court bar exam July 31.
His previous schooling includes a master’s degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam, N.Y., and a bachelor’s degree from Empire State College in New York, both in mathematics.
He intends to enter private practice. He lives in Niles with his wife, Teresa, and daughter, Olivia.
