Good Grief Camp opens July 28 in Rogers

Staff report

ROGERS

A free Good Grief Camp will be offered at Camp Frederick, 6996 Millrock Road, from July 28 through Aug. 2, catering to youth age 9 through 15 who have suffered the loss of a loved one.

The summer camp’s theme is “Where Hope Grows,” and aims to increase awareness of the mind, body and spirit connection. Participants will learn coping skills, interact with others who have experienced loss and learn that they are not alone in their experience.

Crafts offered during camp will teach lessons about grief while also providing a memento for the children. Craft events will include breaking plates and creating sculptures from the broken pieces.

Campers will swim, creek stomp, participate in challenge-course activities and sing in groups.

Good Grief is a collaborative effort of Camp Frederick, Good Hope Lutheran Church, North Lima, Kids’ Grieve Too and All Caring Hospice.

Input is provided from social workers, chaplains, artists and experienced volunteers. Camp staff and volunteers are specially trained for grief programs.

All children are interviewed before attending the camp. They will be contacted after their application has been received. For an application or to volunteer, call 330-227-3633.
