UPDATE: Black bear moves into Boardman

Staff report

BOARDMAN

A black bear spotted this morning in Canfield has moved into Boardman.

Police said the bear was last seen shortly before 2 p.m. on Cranberry Run at White House Lane, moving east.

A game warden from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is in the township, monitoring the bear’s movements.

Jamey Graham, an ODNR spokeswoman, said that between May and August each year, young black bears from Pennsylvania make their way into Ohio, looking to stake out territory. They typically aren’t aggressive unless cornered, she said. But Graham urged people not to approach a bear if spotted and to keep children and small animals in sight.
