POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

June 16

Theft: A satellite radio and radio mount were removed from a vehicle in the 1100 block of North Ward Avenue.

Theft/criminal mischief: A global-positioning-system unit and loose change were stolen from two vehicles parked in the 100 block of Chippewa Court. One of the cars had damage to its center console.

Theft: Someone in the 200 block of Chippewa Court ransacked a vehicle before taking $20 and various compact discs.

Criminal damaging: Someone used a key to do $500 in damage to a vehicle’s driver’s side in the 900 block of Gary Avenue.

Trespassing: Police stopped a dirt bike off U.S. Route 422, then charged 22-year-old Mark K. Ott, 50 Dearborn St., Girard, with criminal trespassing and driving under suspension. Ott, who also was wanted on several warrants, rode his vehicle on private property near Vallourec Star, a report said.

Theft: A woman near North Ward Avenue discovered an iPhone, a purse, a pair of sunglasses, a garage-door opener and a set of keys missing from her vehicle.

June 17

Assault: A man performing yard work at his Woodlawn Avenue home told police another man he knows got out of a car and tried to strike the accuser with a baseball bat before the two struggled and the man drove away.

Theft: Someone removed $30 worth of quarters from a vehicle in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue.

Menacing: A Mohawk Drive girl reported another girl threatened to kill the accuser and damage her car and residence as part of ongoing problems between them.

June 18

Criminal mischief: A Trumbull Avenue man told officers someone threw several rocks, bricks and roofing nails at a car in his driveway, though the vehicle sustained minor damage.

LIBERTY

June 12

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 4900 block of Belmont Avenue led to 25-year-old Kody A. Mayle’s arrest. Mayle, of 1320 W. Montrose St., Liberty, was wanted on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Keefer Road man said he loaned his 1999 Dodge vehicle to a Youngstown man who refused to return it.

Theft/vandalism: The owner of a restaurant in the 4000 block of Belmont Avenue discovered someone had damaged two air- conditioning units, evidently in an effort to remove the enclosed copper tubing, and stole a lawn mower, the cover to a roof’s exhaust system, a mop and a mop bucket.

Arrest: Police were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to arrest 34-year-old Ralph W. Smith Jr., 234 Seneca St., Youngstown, who was wanted on an outstanding township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Harassment: A Lucretia Drive woman said her former boyfriend has made unwanted calls to her.

Domestic violence: Jeffrey Gadison, 43, of 126 Mill Run Drive, Liberty, was charged with the crime after his wife alleged that during an argument, Gadison threw a glass of ice water in her face, and that she later fell and injured her left knee in an attempt to get away from him.

Menacing: A motorist near Trumbull and Belmont avenues reported another driver intentionally followed closely behind as he drove north on Belmont.

Fraud: A security investigator with Citi Trends, a clothing store at 3489 Belmont Ave., alleged that an internal investigation revealed three employees had improperly rung up merchandise to one another and others, defrauding the business of at least $4,350.

June 13

Harassment: A Ravine Drive woman said a man has called making lewd remarks and profane threats to kill her.

Drugs: Police near Interstate 80 and state Route 193 stopped Jennings W. Barger of 512 Electric St., New Castle, Pa., and charged the 24-year-old Barger with a misdemeanor count of trafficking in drugs. A tin container with 10 bags of suspected marijuana packaged for sale was discovered, a report showed.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Colonial Drive man who learned his company’s commercial van was in an accident in Youngstown told police he never gave the driver permission to operate the vehicle.

Breaking and entering: Someone forcibly entered the basement of a vacant Little North Road home and removed an estimated $1,000 worth of copper.

Arrest: Officers, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, arrested 33-year-old Bobi Jo Green at her residence, 5726 Logan Arms Drive, Liberty, on an outstanding warrant from Crawford County, Pa.

June 14

Drugs: Police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue pulled over 22-year-old Steven K. Jeter of Akron, who faced felony charges of possession of criminal tools and trafficking in heroin and crack cocaine after authorities said they found a playing card commonly used to sift drugs, along with two bags of narcotics Jeter admitted were heroin and crack. Also taken into custody was Taylor Bracy, 20, of 4000 Hillman Way, Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant.

Arrest: Authorities in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue took custody of 24-year-old Dominick J. Demarco, 1142 E. Liberty St., Girard. Demarco was wanted on a warrant from Girard Municipal Court accusing him of failing to appear.

Aggravated menacing: A Girard woman told police a man in his 40s driving a black Ford Fusion followed her to a Church Hill-Hubbard Road tanning salon where he struck but failed to break her windshield with a baseball bat. She was in the car during the incident, a report said.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive via a side window. Stolen were a 19-inch TV and $200.

June 15

Criminal damaging: Officers dealing with a disturbance charged Anna Arnio of 2920 Oakland Drive, Liberty, with criminal damaging, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after saying Arnio, 42, continually yelled profanities at a group of people, refused to desist and struck a police cruiser’s mirror.

June 16

Theft: Police apprehended 24-year-old Eric J. Wallace near Gypsy Lane and charged him with theft after a family member alleged Wallace, of 2906 Northview Ave., Liberty, stole her 40-inch flat-screen TV.

Domestic violence: Robert A. Beck, 30, of 445 Beverly Hills Drive, Liberty, faced a felony domestic-violence charge and one misdemeanor count each of aggravated menacing and resisting arrest after his father alleged an intoxicated Beck had threatened to stab his throat and burn down the residence before intentionally bumping the accuser’s chest. Also, Beck refused to cooperate with police, they said.

June 17

Theft: A $200 refrigerator was missing from an apartment in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive.

Arrest: Authorities were dispatched to the Portage County jail, where they arrested John R. Hovanes, 31, of 490 Tenney Ave., Campbell. He was wanted on a township warrant charging theft.

Menacing: A Warner Road man said his former wife in Italy sent him a threatening email, causing the accuser to fear for his safety.

Menacing: A Northview Avenue man reported a friend from whom he had borrowed $70 sent him a threatening text message, perhaps because the accuser had failed to pay back the money.

Illegal dumping: Police responded to two complaints that a business had dumped oil-field waste in a storm drain and on the ground off Amherst Avenue just west of Belmont Avenue.
