Fourth-grade students were the stars during the fourth-grade recognition dinner at North Elementary School May 28.
The theme of the event was “Hall of Fame” and each student walked the red carpet. There was a star with each student’s name on it along side the carpet.
The evening began with a performance put on by the fourth-grade class. Among the selections that were performed were “On My Way” by Phil Collins, “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammar and “Hall of Fame” by The Script. After, there was a presentation of awards.
The first award given out was the Presidential Academic Excellent Award. In order to receive this award, students needed to have a 3.5-4.0 GPA. In addition, students needed to score in the 85th percentile or higher in reading or math on a nationally normed test, or in the advanced level on the OAA.
Students presented with the Presidential Achievement Award was Justin Allsopp, Emma Battaglia, Ryan Casey, Zachary Chachko, Karter Kellgren, Jordyn Kopp, Benjamin McElhinny, Jillian Phillips, Nathan Pike, Makenzie Pappas, Olivia Rosenberg, Bryce Schmid, Mason Spurlock, Aidan Stec, Max Thompkins and Aaron Wire. Chacko, Kellgren and Pike were also noted for their 4.0 GPA.
The next award was the Citizenship Award. This was given to students who go above and beyond to be a good person. The students who received this award were voted on by the teachers. Students who received the Citizenship Award were Karter Kellgren, Gianna Lattanzio, Jillian Phillips and Aaron Wire.
Renee Gesacion, a fourth-grade teacher said this class was very unique.
“They are hard workers and I hope that continues, they love learning and get along wonderful together,” said Gesacion.
Gesacion offered some advice for the fourth-grade class.
“Always do your best and work hard. Don’t use the word ‘can’t’ and always try, because you never know if you can succeed if you don’t try,” said Gesacion.
