Students gathered to play video games during the PS2 Tuesday event at the Austintown library May 14.
The program allows students in grades 7-12 to play video games on a large screen in the meeting room of the library. Some of the games offered were “Rise to Honor,” “Jak 3,” “DDRMAX,” “Burn Out,” “Guitar Hero” and “Madden,” one of the children’s favorites. Attendees can also bring their own games to play.
“The kids like to come play on the big screen, it makes it more interesting for them,” said Cindy Beach, teen librarian.
Not all kids come to play the games though, some just come to hang out or work on homework.
“The program allows students to relax a bit more in a social setting,” said Beach. “A lot of kids come to do homework, play card games, talk and hang out, or just watch the others play.”
The library hopes to expand programs for teens next year.
“Next year we hope to be able to have programs for the teens every single week and more than one day a week,” said Beach.
