Poland Union Elementary school honored its fourth-grade students with a special dinner May 30.

The theme for the event was based on the song “My Wish” by Rascal Flats. Lisa Shaw, PTO co-chair of the event said the theme sums up the hope the parents have for all the kids.

“This is the beginning to their next step of life and the song simply states to dream, life is not always easy but keep going and look for the people that truly love you,” said Shaw.

Jen Gallo, PTO co-chair of the event, said the event is important.

“This dinner marks the end of their true elementary years, where the teachers really guide them through and help them along. Once they reach McKinley, a lot more responsibility becomes theirs and they’re not treated like little kids anymore. It’s really quite a transition,” said Gallo. “The dinner is also an opportunity for the parents to say goodbye to the Union teachers and honor their child’s accomplishments.”

The dinner included a performance from the fourth-grade class where they recalled the different things each teacher taught them. The students also sang songs such as, “Fifty Nifty United States,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “On My Way” and put a twist on “YMCA,” changing it to “MCKY,” to honor the new school they will be attending.
