Sixth-grade students at Canfield Village Middle School came to play and compete during the school’s annual field day June 5. The students entered the field chanting and excited with each class wearing coordinating colors and many students decked out in face paint of their team’s color. With nine classes competing against each other, the field was full of competitors.

CVMS sixth-grade teacher Michael Richards organized the games and explained the rules to the students, while the teachers kept score to determine the winning class.

The classes were split into boys and girls and the students participated in such games as the over-the-shoulder ball toss, hula hoop relay, scoop ball relay, ball under the chin relay, wall toss and, of course, tug-of-war. When all games were complete, and the scores tallied, Joanne Ahlquist’s class was crowned champion, with Judy Parsons’ class placing second and Michael Richards’ class placing third.

Ahlquist’s class received a trophy which will be kept in her classroom until next year’s sixth-graders compete for the top title next spring.
