City man arrested with semiautomatic gun

YOUNGSTOWN — Police found a semiautomatic handgun on a man they arrested on an aggravated robbery warrant Wednesday afternoon.

Officers and members of the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force went to arrest Allen Jerome Thompson, 18, of Youngstown, on the warrant about 2:50 p.m. and found him walking on East Boston Avenue. When he saw police, he ran into an East Boston home’s backyard, reports said.

Reports said Thompson was warned to come out or a police dog would be sent in. He did not come out, so the dog went into the yard and grabbed him by the ankle, reports said. Thompson told police he had a gun and to get the dog off him, reports said.

Police found the semiautomatic gun. Thompson was examined at St. Elizabeth Health Center before being released to police, who took him to the Mahoning County Jail pending his arraignment Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court.
