YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury today indicted a man in connection with a December 1974 triple homicide in Canfield Township.

Indicted was James P. Ferrara, 64, on three counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated robbery.

Killed at their South Turner Road on Dec. 14, 1974, was Benjamin Marsh, 33; his wife Marilyn, 32; and their 4-year-old daughter, Heather. Left unharmed was the couple's son, Christopher, who was 1 at the time.

Authorities announced the indictment at a press conference at the county prosecutor's office. Officials said Ferrara was linked to the crime through fingerprints.

Investigators said Ferrara's name never came up in the investigation until they matched his fingerprints in 2009. He is in the Marion Correctional Institution on a life sentence for aggravated murder, robbery and drug trafficking. He has been in prison since 1984.
