Youngstown council sets traffic camera laws

YOUNGSTOWN

City council approved an ordinance today to establish laws on traffic cameras.

The cameras will be installed in school zones this summer and be used once classes start in the fall semester.

The legislation, approved by a 7-0 vote, doesn’t restrict traffic cameras from being used elsewhere in the city. Council members say they don’t support placing them in other locations though some said that could change.

Also today, council voted in favor of a resolution that allows the owners of the downtown Wick Building, vacant for about eight years, to receive a $770,000 state grant.

NYO Property Group plans to spend $16.5 million to convert the 103-year-old building into a 52-unit rental and extended-stay living facility. The work will be finished next year.
