Police: Mom stole $27K from Pa. football boosters

DERRY, Pa. (AP) — A mother who formerly headed the football boosters program at a western Pennsylvania high school has been charged with stealing more than $27,000 from the organization.

A defense attorney declined comment on behalf of 49-year-old Lori Nicely, of Derry Township, who faces a preliminary hearing June 26.

Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg say Nicely stole the money while heading the Derry Area Football Boosters Club during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons.

Trooper Steve Limani says Nicely would simply withhold a portion of cash for herself whenever players or parents collected contributions or sold items to benefit the group. When she was confronted after the 2011 season, Nicely allegedly returned about $8,200 in a brown paper bag to the football coach and was fired.

Police haven’t said what happened to the rest of the money.
