NY man gets 21 years in Pa. interstate sex cases
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A New York man has been sentenced to 21 years in federal prison for traveling to Pennsylvania intending to lure girls as young as 8 into having sex.
Forty-two-year-old David Lopus, of Ashville, N.Y., pleaded guilty in January to three counts of interstate travel to have sex with a minor and was sentenced today by a federal judge in Erie.
He was arrested in a homeless shelter in Ohio in June 2011 on warrants out of Pennsylvania.
Federal prosecutors later took over the cases after determining Lopus traveled from New York to Conewango Township, where he allegedly tried to lure a girl into his vehicle near a trailer park on May 24, 2011. Police later charged him with trying to lure an 11-year-old girl into the toilet area near an elementary school playground on June 30, 2011.
