Equine group plans Veterans Salute
Staff report
CANFIELD
The Northern Ohio Quarter Horse Association will honor veterans during the Summer Six Pack from June 20 through 23 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Veterans Salute is an equine activities program with three areas for veterans to enjoy: riding program, driving program, or unmounted activities. Veterans Salute and the Veterans Canteen are open to and free for all veterans.
The volunteer staffers are primarily veterans themselves, and the program is funded through generous grants and donations. The schedule for Veterans Salute follows:
Thursday p.m.: Silent auction during the exhibitor taco party, proceeds to Veterans Salute. Items will include an Insta-Hot Water Heater donated by Schneider’s Saddlery, Harris Air Ride Saddle Pads, Harris Work Headstall, Harris Hoody and Cinch Hoody.
Friday at lunch break: Northern Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association will have a cakewalk, and proceeds go to Veterans Salute.
Saturday at lunch break (approximately noon): Veterans Salute Exhibition — Heroes For Horses — will begin with an opening ceremony and an introduction of the veterans from the program, then proceed to a trail class and driving obstacle, which will be judged and placed by three judges.
Saturday evening: The Veterans Salute group will be the guests of honor at the NOQHA Exhibitor Cookout.
