Police are searching for a South Avenue woman who they say left her two young children strapped in car seats while she went to work Sunday evening, and then fled when police arrived at her job to question her.
Chief Carl N. Frost said 24-year-old Kacee Rae Moser was working at the Hampton Woods nursing home on East Western Reserve Road in New Springfield when officers went to question her. They had been called to her house about 8:45 p.m. Sunday and found a 9-month-old infant and 3-year-old child strapped in car seats in front of the television.
Frost said it was decided to have a supervisor get Moser so as not to disturb patients, but Moser ran away on foot.
She is wanted on warrants for two counts of child endangering and two counts of abduction, because the children were restrained, Frost said.
A person who answered the phone at the nursing home Monday afternoon said she did not know about the case and that the administrator had left for the day.
Frost said police were alerted Sunday by a woman who drove Moser to work, who had a feeling that something was not right and asked police to check her home.
“She had been having a weird feeling about her [Moser] working 12-hour shifts,” Frost said.
When police arrived, they saw the children through the window, and when they could get no one to answer the door, they broke the door down, Frost said.
The children are in the custody of Mahoning County Children Services.
Mahoning County Court records show Moser is facing a charge of receiving stolen property in Canfield Area Court involving a stolen license plate. The charge was filed May 25. The case is still open, according to court records.
Frost said Moser also was arrested in April on a warrant from another jurisdiction.
