Dayton racino clears another hurdle

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The new racino being built in Dayton has cleared a financing hurdle.

Dayton-Montgomery County Port Authority directors voted Monday to authorize the issuance of $65 million in bonds to finance construction of the 119-acre harness-racing track that will also feature video slot machines.

Jerry Brunswick, executive director of the port authority, said the money will go toward construction materials for the $125 million project.

The Dayton Daily News reports that developer Penn National Gaming Inc. is the borrower, with the port authority acting as a “conduit” for financing.

Officials say the Hollywood at Dayton Raceway is expected to create 1,000 new jobs, with another 1,000 jobs for construction workers.

It’s being built on the former site of an auto parts manufacturing plant. The track will open next year.
