LOWELLVILLE

The Lowellville Local School District is waiting to hear back from its insurance companies after a meeting Friday to discuss the extent of fire, smoke and water damage to the district’s high school.

Rocco Nero, superintendent, said he expected the estimates to be available in about one week.

The fire broke out shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday after lightning struck the roof of Lowellville High School, located in the school complex at 52 Rocket Place. The fire was contained to a 150-foot strip on the peak of the roof, but heavy smoke damage occurred on the first and second floors. Water damage is limited to the school’s second floor. No one was injured.

WARREN

Stephanie Romeo, 31, a Warren woman who has been charged with more than 100 criminal offenses since 2001 in Warren, Niles, Liberty, Weathersfield and Girard, was charged again Sunday.

Warren police said they saw Romeo throw a cup of hot coffee at a 57-year-old employee of USA Gas Mart, 317 Pine Street SE, and then strike her in the face with a closed fist.

The incidents occurred at 11:03 p.m. in the gas station parking lot.

During the transport and booking stages of the arrest, Romeo kicked the police car and made threats to officers. She also spit in the face of one of the Warren officers, according to a police report.

Judge Thomas Gysegem of Warren Municipal Court on Monday ordered Romeo to be held in the Trumbull County jail without eligibility to make bond. She was charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal trespassing.
