Brenda Averhart, a member of the group Friends of the East branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, portrayed a freed slave Saturday during a Juneteenth program at the library. The event commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when the last slaves in the United States discovered that they were free.
