Timken Co. forms strategy committee

The Timken Co. announced that its board of directors has formed a strategy committee to evaluate a potential separation of the company’s steel business from its other businesses and to review the company’s corporate governance and capital allocation strategy.

The formation of the committee is in response to the nonbinding shareholder proposal that recently was approved at the company’s 2013 Annual Meeting of Shareholders.

AK Steel announces price increase

AK Steel will increase current spot market base prices for all carbon flat-rolled steel products by a minimum of $40 per ton, effective immediately with new orders.

AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, primarily for automotive, infrastructure and manufacturing, construction and electrical power generation and distribution markets.

Topical meeting on shale gas

The National Academy of Engineering is having a topical meeting on shale gas Tuesday and Wednesday at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

The two-day conference will explore various topics, focusing on both the risks and rewards of shale gas, with the chief goal to raise awareness and enhance understanding for a general audience, giving them the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers.
